18TLY is
a term in the entertainment industry, referring to actors 18+ who play parts for
late teens (16 to 18 year olds). Due to US labor laws which heavily restrict the
hours and working conditions of minors, producers will usually fill their parts
with people 18 or just over. 18TLYs are primarily used in background and extra
work, but there is no denying that numerous principal roles intended for
mid-teens are landed by 18 and 19 year olds.
Unfortunately
for actors in the 16-17 range, they find a dearth of work as a result, but they
get it back in spades once they attain their majority.
18TLYs
and 18TPYs play high school students and such and are found on teen dramas such
as 90210 and Melrose Place, as well as too many major movies to
mention.
